Precious chocolate!
Cripes, as I have hinted in previous blogs today, I have been on a quest to find Sahne Nuss chocolate with Almadres (ie chocolate with Almonds). This Chilean chocolate (albeit, now owned by Nestle) is truly a little charmer hidden in this South American country – its not found anywhere else in South America and it is DELICIOUS!
But yesterday, finding it Vina del Mar proved to be surprisingly hard. Usually its quite easy to track down in supermarkets, but I went to two and only found ONE bar! There was a huge white expanse where the actual Sahne Nuss chocolate should have been. Well, they had this new line, ´Air´ with almonds, but not the same. And they had a couple of bars with raisins. But still, the best one is the one with almonds.
Not to fear, I said to myself, I´ll find it in Valpariso tomorrow…
My first trip into a supermarket in Valpariso resulted in empty shelves only! Sure, the lables were there, like last night, but no Sahne Nuss chocolate of any description!
By chance, I fluked on another supermarket. Imagine my joy when I saw a big display of it – behind a locked glass door! My god, this chocolate was either so good or so precious, they had to lock it up!
So with my poor Spanish, I had to somehow convey to the checkout operator that I wanted some chocolate. They finally tracked down a lady in a white coat who handed me one. I begged for 2 additional bars and she grudgingly gave them to me. Precious stuff!
Fortunately it was deemed I had done my time queuing and the checkout operator let me jump the queue to pay for my chocolate.
Now I walk back to the ship clutching my precious Sahne Nuss chocolate with almonds. A price well paid, but if its so precious, I better ration myself when I eat it!
